Frazier Museum and WKU Form a Partnership
Bowling Green, KY – A new partnership has been announced between Western Kentucky University (WKU) in Bowling Green, KY, and the Frazier International History Museum based in Louisville, KY. In its efforts to truly become a “Leading American University with International Reach,” WKU is linking with the Frazier Museum, which shares WKU’s vision to develop globally minded graduates. A variety of activities will be offered to students as a result of the partnership. Opportunities include several undergraduate and graduate level internships to be offered at the Frazier Museum (beginning January 2009) in research, educational programming, and curatorial studies. In addition, WKU’s student-run advertising and public relations agency, IMAGEWEST, will help create a marketing plan for an upcoming exhibit about Fontaine Ferry Park. A large project within the partnership involves WKU’s new Center for the Study of the Civil War in the West, which will share in the development of a Civil War exhibit scheduled to open at the Frazier Museum in 2011. Dr. Bernie Strenecky, Scholar-in-Residence, and Provost Barbara Burch have been key players in the development of this relationship, along with Dr. Madeleine Burnside, the Frazier Museum’s executive director. Dr. Burnside said recently, “This partnership brings the Frazier Museum a giant step forward in our efforts to share our resources with all Kentuckians. We’re looking forward to a long and successful relationship with Western Kentucky University and its students.” Provost Burch agreed, “We are very pleased to have this special opportunity for our faculty and students. We expect to begin immediately making the first internship placements available as we build on this relationship in mutually beneficial ways.”
